WESTERN SPRING TELEVISION INTERVIEW FOR CALPS FOUNDATION
Title: “Empowering Children: CALPS For Well-being Foundation on Spring Delight”
On an early July morning in 2024, the CALPS For Children Well-being Foundation received a prestigious invitation. The spotlight turned toward them as they took center stage on Western Spring Television, a digital channel in Nigeria known for its factual news reporting, innovative programming, and society-conscious content. The occasion? An engaging interview on the show “Spring Delight.”
The topic of discussion was “Child Empowerment in the 21st Century: Societal Roles in Providing Care and Advocacy for the Less Privileged.” The foundation’s director, Ayodele Ojerinde Daniel, stepped into the studio to shed light on the remarkable work carried out by this non-governmental organization (NGO) – the CALPS For Children Well-being Foundation. With passion and purpose, Daniel delved into the heart of their mission, emphasizing the critical role they play in uplifting vulnerable children and advocating for their rights.
As the cameras rolled and the conversation unfolded, viewers across Osun State tuned in to learn about the foundation’s initiatives, impact, and vision for a brighter future. The interview served as a powerful reminder that collective efforts can transform lives, one child at a time.
Here are some of his discussions below;
My journey began when I was posted to Teli village in Kebbi state for my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) their population was about 80,000 people. While I was there, I noticed that virtually all the children had a strange deformity where they had skinny heads, big tummies, and tiny legs due to malnutrition. This really concerned me, so I spoke to the community leader who was an healthcare worker who told me that it was due to the ignorance of the parents that resulted to that stating that the pregnant women refuses to go for antenatal until it’s gets to the complicated stage, hearing this I thought to myself that changes can be brought to the community once they are notified or synthesized about the possible solutions to be taken to solve the malnutrition case. I also made more researches by going from one door to another and discovered at least two or more children dies of malnutrition in that village.
After my NYSC service, I couldn’t forget those children’s faces. I was so passionate about the well-being of children solely, so I decided to create an intervention. That’s what prompted the establishment of CALPS For Children Well-being Foundation. I realized that it’s not just the role of the parents to care for their children, but it’s also the responsibility of the society and community as a whole.
CALPS For Children Well-being Foundation is an organization that aims to promote the well-being of children by caring, assisting, loving, protecting and supporting the children in Nigeria and across the globe. We work in partnership with schools, teachers, and communities to ensure that children receive the care and advocacy they deserve. We believe that every child is an asset and that if we fail to take care of them when they are young, we may end up dealing with serious societal issues down the line in the nearest future.
I believe that one of our greatest accomplishments is the fact that CALPS For Children Well-being Foundation has been able to sustain itself and grow. We have been able to expand to more than five states in Nigeria and to Ivory Coast, thanks to the commitment and dedication of our volunteers for their willingness towards the organization. I truly believe that our work is making a difference in the lives of children and their communities at large.
We will be coming to osun state to bring more awareness on competitions to schools and other opportunities (I.e. interschool debate competition and lots more) this will get the children excited about education and will make their teachers and parents happy.
In conclusion, my advice would be to remember that children are our future, and we must invest in their well-being and education. Parents and community members should be actively involved in the lives of children, whether they are their own or not. They should be models of good behavior and instill values of compassion, empathy, and responsibility in their children. And when it comes to less privileged children, they should be mindful that those children need extra care and support to help them succeed.
